Nintendo is currently holding a Summer Sale, with loads of discounts on first-party, third-party and indie games. It’s a great time to pick up a game on sale on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and today I’m going to highlight some of the best discounts on games, so you can grab a deal in the Summer sale on Nintendo Switch.

First I’m going to go through the first-party sales. Nintendo rarely discounts their games, so it’s good to see some decent discounts here. After that I’m going to go through some third-party and indie games worth considering, with some of the best games over the last few years seeing major discounts. The Summer Sale is ongoing until 3rd August 2025.

Nintendo first-party discounts

Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch)

From the moment the Switch launched, it felt like the ideal home for Fire Emblem. Strategy games thrive on portability, and the ability to transition seamlessly from handheld play to a full HD display gave Three Houses a cinematic scale that simply wasn’t possible on the 3DS. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (Switch)

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes the classic Dynasty Warriors formula and enhances it with the polish and narrative depth of Breath of the Wild, creating a surprisingly compelling blend. With a sizable roster of well-known characters — each equipped with unique weapons and combat styles — the game lets you dive into the epic conflict that unfolded 100 years before the events of BOTW.

While the performance occasionally stumbles (sometimes quite noticeably), the frame rate dips never truly got in the way of our enjoyment. For those who’ve already poured hundreds of hours into BOTW and Tears of the Kingdom but still crave more time in Hyrule, Age of Calamity offers a welcome return. Teaming up with the Four Champions is a genuine highlight, and although this spin-off leans heavily on Breath of the Wild’s legacy, it still delivers an entertaining and worthwhile prequel. Bonus: it looks significantly better running on the Switch 2.

Metroid Prime Remastered (Switch)
£26.19 (-25%)

Metroid Prime Remastered pulls off the seemingly impossible: it takes a classic masterpiece and makes it even better. Any minor gripes — a few motion control quirks or the rare visual hiccup — are easily overshadowed by the remarkable upgrades on display. From sweeping overhauls to the finest details, the visual enhancements are striking, placing this firmly among the best-looking games on the Switch, remaster or otherwise.

The newly implemented twin-stick controls are a game-changer, offering smooth, intuitive gameplay for both longtime fans and first-timers. Prefer the original GameCube setup? That’s available too. With the addition of an expanded gallery filled with art and extras, Metroid Prime Remastered isn’t just a nostalgia trip — it sets a new gold standard for how classic games can be respectfully and brilliantly reimagined for a modern audience.

Splatoon 3 (Switch)

Splatoon 3 doesn’t reinvent the formula — it perfects it. Building on everything that came before, it delivers the tightest, most polished experience in the series, and quite possibly the most fun we’ve had with an online shooter in years. For longtime fans, it makes Splatoon 2 feel largely obsolete, aside from its distinct single-player content.

The developers clearly listened to the community, addressing every major gripe — and even smoothing out issues we hadn’t noticed. While it may lack a bold, headline-grabbing innovation, Splatoon 3 is a masterclass in refinement. It stands as both the high point of the franchise and the best shooter available on the Switch, made even better by some excellent DLC additions.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Switch)

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition takes an already exceptional JRPG and elevates it in nearly every way — short of a full remake. Beyond its gripping story, dynamic combat, and breathtaking world design, Monolith Soft has fine-tuned almost every element, from streamlined progression systems to enhanced visuals and a vastly improved UI. They’ve even added a brand-new epilogue, Future Connected, offering fresh narrative content for returning players.

In a library brimming with top-tier RPGs, XC:DE still stands tall as one of the best role-playing experiences available on the Switch. If you’ve ever been a fan of the original, or have any love for JRPGs at all, this is an essential play. It’s not just a definitive edition in name — it’s the benchmark by which others should be measured.

Third-party and indie games

1000xRESIST

1000xResist is a stunning debut from Sunset Visitor — a game that wears its identity proudly and delivers one of the most beautifully written stories we’ve encountered. While the Switch port and a few minor gameplay hiccups hold it back slightly, they pale in comparison to the emotional and narrative impact the experience leaves behind.

Bold, introspective, and unflinchingly sincere, 1000xResist stands as a powerful reminder of what indie games can achieve. It’s more than just memorable — it’s a deeply human work of art, and a shining example of the medium’s potential for storytelling.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (Switch eShop)
£15.74 (-25%)

Citizen Sleeper 2 is a confident, finely tuned sequel that retains everything that made the original a standout indie hit, while thoughtfully expanding its mechanics with fresh, compelling ideas. Its choice-driven narrative, tense and rewarding RPG systems, and a stellar soundtrack all converge to create an experience that’s hard to step away from once it grabs hold.

Whether you’re a returning fan or a newcomer curious about the hype, Citizen Sleeper 2 delivers a deeply engaging journey that stands proudly alongside — and arguably above — its predecessor. And with the first game currently on sale (a solid 8/10 in its own right), there’s never been a better time to dive into this unique sci-fi universe.

Death’s Door (Switch eShop)

Death’s Door is a modern gem — a compact, finely crafted adventure that breathes new life into classic gameplay ideas. With tight, responsive combat, rewarding exploration, and a beautifully understated soundtrack, it delivers a memorable experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

While it doesn’t reinvent the genre, the sheer polish and execution more than make up for any lack of novelty. If you’re a fan of Zelda-style adventures or Soulslike challenges, this is an easy recommendation. Acid Nerve has created something special — short, sweet, and absolutely worth every minute of your time.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Switch)

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown marks a stylish return to the series’ roots, delivering sharp 2.5D action wrapped in a vibrant art style and a compelling narrative. It strikes a smart balance between classic platforming challenge, fluid combat, and clever puzzle design — all enhanced by thoughtful accessibility options that make the experience inviting for both veterans and newcomers alike.

Ubisoft Montpellier, known for their craftsmanship, delivered a standout title before their unfortunate disbandment. And they went out on a high note: The Lost Crown is not only a triumphant revival, but one of the first must-play releases of 2024. The Switch port, in particular, holds its own impressively — a strong showing for both the game and the platform.

Tetris Effect: Connected (Switch eShop)
£17.99 (-50%)

Tetris Effect: Connected might just be the definitive version of the iconic puzzler. While the Switch port doesn’t add many new features compared to other platforms, it delivers something no other version can: true portability.

Some may claim the game’s hypnotic, synesthetic magic is best experienced in VR — and there’s merit to that — but we’d argue its real strength lies in being able to dive into its mesmerizing blend of visuals, music, and gameplay anytime, anywhere. Much like how Tetris and the Game Boy once revolutionized portable gaming in 1989, Tetris Effect: Connected feels like it has found its perfect home on Switch.

This is a must-have for any Nintendo fan — and trust us, you’ll want a good pair of headphones to get the full effect.
