The Game Awards 2025 delivered a strong showing for Nintendo fans, especially those eager to see what the Switch 2 is truly capable of. From ambitious new IPs to long-awaited franchise returns, this year’s announcements painted a picture of the future. Let’s dive into the biggest reveals, plus a recap on what Nintendo won at the Game Awards 2025.
Orbitals — A Retro Anime Co-Op Adventure Built for Switch 2
One of the standout announcements was Orbitals, a brand-new intergalactic puzzle adventure developed by Shapefarm and published by Keplar Interactive. Built entirely in Unreal Engine 5 and designed from day one around cooperative play, the game embraces the Switch 2’s GameShare, Joy-Con 2, and GameChat features in ways few titles have yet explored.
Set in a vibrant retro-anime galaxy inspired by 1970s manga, Orbitals follows two players working together to prevent cosmic storms from tearing apart their space station. Each player takes on asymmetrical roles, solving puzzles with bespoke space-tools, piloting through meteor fields, and occasionally just relaxing in its richly animated sci-fi world.
Shapefarm partnered with Japan’s Studio Massket to craft fully hand-animated cutscenes and an original anime world brought to life with remarkable care. With both English and Japanese voice tracks and flexible co-op options — from split-screen Joy-Con play to cross-device GameShare to online matchmaking — Orbitals looks poised to become one of the definitive early showcases for the Switch 2 when it launches in 2026.
Pragmata — Capcom’s Sci-Fi Adventure Lands on Switch 2
Capcom kicked off the pre-show with a big update: Pragmata is officially coming to Switch 2 on April 24th, 2026. Pre-orders are already available, and a gameplay demo has launched on Steam, with a Switch 2 demo arriving later.
The game follows Hugh and his android companion Diana as they navigate a desolate lunar research station in a near-future world. Blending action-adventure with a unique hacking-based gameplay twist, the title represents Capcom’s latest push into new sci-fi territory.
Another surprise was the reveal of a Diana amiibo, with more details promised soon. Capcom also confirmed that footage of the Switch 2 version will be shown at a later date, but for now, fans have some early screenshots and that striking amiibo tease to pore over.
South of Midnight — Xbox’s Supernatural Adventure Comes to Switch 2
In a continuing shift in strategy, Xbox announced yet another first-party title headed to other platforms. Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight will arrive on Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 in Spring 2026, following its original launch on Xbox Series X|S earlier this year.
Set in a magic-realist interpretation of the American South, the game stars Hazel, a young woman trying to save her mother after a devastating storm. As the world descends from grounded desperation into the supernatural, Hazel discovers she is a “Weaver,” unlocking new abilities and combat capabilities as the story unfolds.
Praised for its style, storytelling, and character growth, South of Midnight coming to Switch 2 marks another strong addition to the console’s maturing library of narrative-driven action games.
Out of Worlds — A Stop-Motion Co-Op Adventure With Heart
Fans of It Takes Two should keep their eyes on Out of Worlds, a handcrafted stop-motion co-op platformer coming to Switch 2 in 2026. Developed by Kong Orange, Wired Fly, and Morten Søndergaard with publishing support from Epic Games, this visually striking adventure takes place in the whimsical realm of Vokabulantis.
Players control Kurt and Karla — two characters who have mysteriously lost their voices — and must work together either online or via local co-op to navigate a world entirely built by hand. The project made a splash at Summer Game Fest 2025, where its demo earned high praise for creativity, charm, and its emotional storytelling.
The Game Awards also quietly reaffirmed the Switch 2 release of Pragmata and revealed Mega Man: Dual Override for both the original Switch and Switch 2.
Resident Evil Requiem — Leon Kennedy Officially Returns
After a brief leak earlier in the week, The Game Awards finally confirmed it: Leon S. Kennedy is back in Resident Evil Requiem. Appearing alongside new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, Leon’s updated character design blends his classic RE4 look with a more seasoned, battle-worn presence.
Capcom describes Requiem as a hybrid of survival-horror tension and high-octane action. Evidence suggests Grace will anchor the slower, atmospheric sequences, while Leon — ever the hardened agent — takes on the more explosive set pieces.
Resident Evil Requiem launches on Switch 2 on February 27th, 2026, making it one of the console’s biggest early-year releases.
Mega Man: Dual Override — The Blue Bomber Returns in 2027
One of the night’s most nostalgic surprises was the reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override, a new entry in Capcom’s iconic action-platforming series releasing in 2027 for both Switch systems.
The first teaser offered little beyond glimpses of classic platforming and robot-blasting action, but the announcement alone was enough to energize fans. Capcom also launched a new Robot Master Design Contest, focusing on a character with a suction-powered right arm. Fans have until January 1st, 2026 to submit entries before public voting begins at the end of the month.
Alongside this news, Capcom reiterated its upcoming Pragmata release and its associated amiibo, making it a busy night for the company.
Phasmophobia — The Viral Co-Op Horror Hit Joins Switch 2 in 2026
One of the spookiest surprises of the night was the confirmation that Phasmophobia — the massively popular co-op psychological horror game — is coming to Switch 2 in 2026.
Kinetic Games has revealed that the Switch 2 version will include all content released throughout 2025, with support for up to four players working together online to investigate hauntings across 14 eerie locations. These include the newest map, Nell’s Diner, bringing fresh chills to the console release.
Phasmophobia first launched in Early Access back in 2020 and later found renewed success with its PlayStation and Xbox releases in 2024. With more than 25 million copies sold globally, the Switch 2 version arrives just as the game prepares for its official 1.0 launch in 2026.
Kinetic Games CEO Daniel Knight expressed excitement for the port, noting that both the studio and the community have long hoped to see the title on Nintendo hardware. With major updates planned and a full version on the horizon, Switch 2 players will be joining the ghost-hunting frenzy at the perfect time.
A Strong Night for Nintendo at The Awards
Nintendo also took home a few trophies this year, with Donkey Kong Bananza winning Best Family Game and Mario Kart World earning Best Sports/Racing Game. Combined with the Switch 2’s rapidly expanding lineup, it’s clear that 2026 and beyond are shaping up to be some of the strongest years yet for Nintendo players.
